Gloria Morrison

1. Tell us about your career path. What was significant?

I aspired to work as a Driver with Virginia Imports for about a year before I was hired, I heard that the company would be a great fit for me. Ever since my previous driver positions, I realized that I liked this type of work as a career. After all, I think I'm pretty good with the customers, as well as the company. I like very much that I'm able to inspire other women to pursue a career at a Warehouse. Although it might be a little bit physical, I'm living proof that other women can handle the duties.

2. What drew you to this industry originally? How do you think the industry will evolve?

I was drawn to the industry because of my background driving for several different companies not necessarily warehouses, but the food industry, and ride share, etc. I can see the industry evolving due to people starting to take more interest in distribution.

3. What skills are most important in this industry and why?

I would say that time management and attention to detail would be very important qualities to have. This field, like many others, requires very little error so that everything can operate smoothly. Also working together and communicating is always a plus for business to prosper.

4. What advice would you give to a young professional entering the industry?

I would tell them to keep an open mind and ask for help if they don't understand something. Also to plan the day so that they will be prepared for anything that could happen. Lastly to be safe while working.

5. What challenges do you face as a woman in the industry?

I have not faced to many challenges, because I've always been physical on my jobs. The important thing to do is to stretch. This has kept me in shape to carry out the tasks that working at a warehouse requires.

6. What is your favorite part of your job?

I like that I am able to work at my own pace so I can make sure to be efficient.

7. People would be surprised to know I do...

People would be surprised to know I do appreciate my role!

8. What inspires you?

I am inspired by the unlimited opportunities that I have with the career path I've chosen as far as advancement is concerned.

9. Who, past or present, do you consider a mentor? How did they shape you as a future leader?

I am a second degree black belt, in tae kwon do. My instructor Grand Master Michael Coles I would have to say is my mentor, because he has pushed me to always believe in myself and to do my best.

"Gloria began her employment as a Van Driver with Virginia Imports in November of 2018, and since that time she has become a very valuable member of the team. After completing her training and learning her area of delivery she has worked very hard to serve our customers and their needs, and because of her efforts, she has built a great relationship with the customers she serves and our sales team. As her manager, it is a pleasure to work with her and to have her on my team.
