WLC Philanthropic Event to Benefit Active Minds
Each year, WLC chooses a local charity to actively support during an organized activity to “give back” to the community and network with peers. It is by far one of the highlights of coming together to make a difference at the conference.
This year, the WLC Advisory Board wanted to focus on supporting mental health awareness and education for young adults. Active Minds is dedicated to saving lives and to building stronger families and communities. Through education, research, advocacy, and a focus on young adults ages 14–25, Active Minds is opening up the conversation about mental health and creating lasting change in the way mental health is talked about, cared for, and valued in the United States.
Active Minds was founded by Alison Malmon when she was a junior at the University of Pennsylvania following the suicide of her older brother, and only sibling, Brian. Join us as we assemble 600 stress-less branded boxes/bags for you to donate to a local Active Minds Chapter and schools in the D.C. area.
WSWA 101
For our new WLC attendees, WSWA 101 gives attendees an introduction and update on how WSWA supports you and your teams as the only national membership organization of wine and spirits distributors, including the associations advocacy efforts on federal, state, regulatory, and legal issues impacting the beverage alcohol industry.
Networking Strategies with Nancie McDonnell Ruder, Founder and CEO, Noetic Consultants
We know we need to network, yet don't spend enough time doing it and don't feel it’s hardworking when we do. Yet if we neglect it, our next great career opportunity or ability to be mentored may be out of reach because we have not taken the time to cultivate our people.
Nancie McDonnell Ruder, Founder and CEO, Noetic Consultants, has made networking a top priority for over twenty years and it is the fuel that feeds her marketing consultancy as well as her soul. In this presentation Nancie will note the key barriers and how to overcome them, as well as help attendees identify their networking goals and forge a strategy to achieve them. Her hands on and humorous style will enable all to understand how they can crack their network wide open and enjoy the fruits of this labor that can be done with authenticity, help and kindness.

Standing in Your Power: Communicating to Strengthen Leadership Presence with Dan Parsons
Speaker: Dan Parsons, Facilitator, Presenter, Keynote Speaker & Executive Coach
There is a good reason presenting material can yield better results than just sending an e-mail. Presenting face to face allows for full expression and lets our audience see and hear our emotional commitment to our message. Something an email can't convey effectively. With so much at stake, it's critical our audience sees us as confident, professional and believable. People evaluate us not only by what we say, but how we say it and not just what we do, but how we do it. The most important part of our communication is how we present ourselves, not just our message. We are the message. In this 90 minute workshop we will explore and practice ideas to elevate, strengthen and empower ourselves as thought leaders within our industry.
Whether presenting to convince a CEO or executive team to make a change, motivating employees to take action, or addressing client’s concerns, our success depends upon our ability to build trust, credibility and respect by communicating the message with poise and confidence. Be prepared to get on your feet and practice presenting. This is not a sit and take notes lecture. All attendees will have the opportunity to practice presenting while being recorded. Bring your phone and enthusiasm to perfect your presentation!
